Notes
The casting director for this short film is Christel Baras, who cast Adèle in Les Diables in 2002 and in Naissance des Pieuvres, also made in 2007. She will be the casting director for many of Adèle’s short films and continued to work with Adèle and Cèline (she was casting director in Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu).
Adèle will collaborate on a number of short films with director Frédéric Guelaff, as we shall see in coming days. This is the first of them.
Guelaff has made many short films, which can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/guelaff and has also directed advertisements, such as this one for Dior perfume.

Fyi ref. the English translation of "Les Solitudes" - I asked one of my French teachers the question about the English translation of this title and she writes:"In response to your query, I would say that in French ‘solitudes’ can be put in the plural in order to stress the different types of solitude/loneliness, and this seems emphasised by the male voiced introductions to each scene. However, the English translation seems to focus on people rather than the concept. Interesting translation conundrum!" -fascinating stuff, eh? Just goes to show a very French engagement with concepts and philosophies which chimes very much with Adele's intellectual engagement with her work. Love French cinema!
ReplyDeleteThanks for that. I was guessing at the translation, as Google Translate didn't give me an ok one. Maybe 'Lonelinesses' may be closer to the intention?
